History

The Rosseau Horticultural Society has a long history in the village of Rosseau going back to the 1920’s.  Of note, the Fourteenth Annual Flower Show of the Rosseau Horticultural Society was held at the Rosseau Memorial Hall on Thursday, August 24th, 1939 with Lady Eaton as the honorary President and HFC Jones as President.  Sadly, during the War years and for periods following the War, the Society was inactive.

The Rosseau Horticultural Society was reformed in 2004 under a new chapter.  The purpose of the society being to encourage and promote an interest in gardening and landscaping and to contribute to the civic beauty, the preservation of the environment and the conservation of wild plants and animal life.

Summer Beautification

In keeping with its purpose the Rosseau Horticultural Society has for many years taken on responsibility for the beautification of the Village of Rosseau.  The garden boxes and barrels displaying delightful arrays of flowers during the summer months, the garden beds lining highway 141 and the garden area in front of Rosseau Memorial Hall are all undertaken and cared for by the Rosseau Horticultural Society with a grant contribution from Seguin Township.

Thanks to the commitment and support from Hort members, we have a village that is inviting to both residents and visitors and one that we can be truly proud of.

Fall Beautification

In September, the Rosseau Horticultural Society decorates the Village for Fall in readiness for Thanksgiving and the Pumpkin Festival.

Community Vegetable Garden

Our Society has built a Community Garden which is comprised of raised garden boxes for growing vegetables and herbs.  A gazebo, picnic tables and a garden shed provide  the amenities needed to support the gardeners.

Healing Garden

The Healing Garden, adjacent to the Ruth Dare Health Centre is undergoing a revitalization project to ensure the selected plants are native species, and environmentally sustainable by attracting pollinators and requiring low watering.

The vision of the space is to be a meeting place for residents, visitors and community groups.
